History: McDonald Elementary opened in August 1976. The school was named in honor of Bertha McDonald, who was a teacher and principal in Hillsborough County for forty years. She was known for her compassion for children and effectiveness in training teachers. Students chose the school colors, blue and gold, and the mustang as the school mascot.
